Jon "maddog" Hall currently is the Board Chair of the Linux Professional Institute (lpi.org), co-founder and senior adviser to Caninos Loucos (caninosloucos.org), the president of Project Cauã and the executive director of Linux International, and he has probably been programming longer than your father has been alive.

Computer heroes I have known, and you should know

Many people know about Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. While they and their companies created multi-billion dollar product lines, who were the heros that created the multi-trillion dollar computer industry and who shaped world history? This talk will present people of different sexes, ages and backgrounds who have done incredible things, many of whom I have been lucky enough to call my friend. There is not enough time in a 25 minute talk to introduce you to all of them, but I can rapidly discuss them and their contributions so you can read more later and use their inspiration and Free and Open Source Software, Hardware and Culture (FOSSHC) to become a hero too.
